Small Actions Campaign

Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy declared February 5-12th “Say Hi to Your Neighbors Week!” We set a goal to Say Hi to 2,012 neighbors in Waltham.  With your help, we exceeded that goal and said Hi to 2,136+ neighbors in one week!

We believe that saying hi to our neighbors…

  1. Helps create a safer community
  2. Breaks the isolation that people experiencing violence often feel
  3. Helps us be more likely to look out for each other

This Small Action of Saying Hi can make a Big Difference to prevent domestic violence.

We know these Small Actions have made a difference because while we have said Hi, we have met people whose lives are affected by domestic violence. We said Hi to people who know their family, friends and neighbors are experiencing violence.  We talked with neighbors who have experienced violence themselves and also talked to people who grew up in families where domestic violence was present.  Just Saying Hi helps people to know that support is out there.  REACH has supportive services for people who need help, and each of us can help by being a resource to build community and look out for one another. Saying Hi helps to build those connections and we hope you continue to reach out to new people in these small ways.

Though the week is over, we hope you continue to Say Hi to Your Neighbors.  Click on the map to the right to see how the “Hi”s have been counted and keep adding to the count.

We are continuing to spread the word about our Small Actions Campaign through our posters (pictured right). Can you help to prevent domestic violence by helping to hang a poster in a local business, agency or organization? Please contact our community organizer for more information.
